Hi Jared, ... I just wanted to thank you for a great class. I learned a lot and if I had to do it over again, I would have stayed for the advanced class too. You guys have a lot of great knowledge and tips to share.
On that note, are you still thinking of doing any more courses this year?

Thanks

Anna Galentine - Phoenix, AZ

The North Wash Outfitters Technical Canyoneering course was both an excellent refresher for us and a chance to learn new techniques. Jared, Dave and Nicole were an effective team of instructors, adapting the detail of the course to meet the needs of all students regardless of experience. The Comb Ridge Coffee Shop was a perfect setting for the indoor instruction and the local canyons provided a diverse setting for hands on technical training. We have already put what we learned to good use - safer and more adaptable anchor rigging, getting out of pot holes, ascending out of questionable situations, and simply a better developed confidence and respect for exploring the canyons of Utah and beyond.

Jared and Dave;

Peggy and I loved your class. That’s all we talked about most of the trip home and with our friends and family after we arrived in Orangeville. Peggy was somewhat apprehensive about the whole thing before we started but ended up loving it. We were both impressed with the way you two went over the material we had to learn and then had us perform it “Hands on". I think that I learn better that way. It was obvious to us that a great deal of time and thought goes into your classes. We are now talking about what canyons we want to start out on.

I’m considering taking the Technical Class again sometime with my younger brother, if he’ll join me. I’d like to offer the two of you my thanks and appreciation for the time you spent with us, we’ll never forget the experience;

W. Kay and Peggy Clark - Orangeville, UT

Jared,

I wanted to thank you for all the effort you made so the technical canyoneering class my nephew and I took on April 26th. went off without a hitch and provided us with sound, strong, basic canyoneering skills to allow us to enjoy this hobby safely.

I especially appreciated how you took the extra time to make sure my 13 year old nephew understood everything and was able to practice enough to make sure he was comfortable in the skills and concepts you taught.

Everything in the course was presented in a clear, organized manner that made it easy to learn and then practice to be sure the concepts are fully understood. The way we went from classroom to the canyons provided first the knowledge and the practice to be sure we know what to do and why.

Thanks again and we hope to be back for the advanced class later this summer.

Jared,

The Technical Canyoneering class was just wonderful; I learned a tremendous amount. I think the class is great for total beginners like myself, but would also be very informative for people who have some canyoneering experience or those who are coming from a climbing background. I felt safe throughout the class and came away with the confidence to tackle basic canyoneering problems. I felt the best qualities of the class were the hands-on curriculum, the high instructor to student ratios, and the fact that you presented us with background knowledge and then asked us to use this knowledge to solve real-world canyoneering challenges. This approach created an atmosphere that is similar to what canyoneers actually face. Personally, coming from a strong outdoor background, I could have probably skipped some of the general outdoor preparedness discussions; but this will certainly vary between classes. Also, the more time practicing anchors the better. I am quite impressed with North Wash Outfitters and will be back for the Advanced class once I gain some additional experience. I highly recommend the Technical Canyoneering class to beginning and intermediate canyoneers. You are a great instructor and find a great balance of meeting students needs while at the same time challenging them to improve their skills. A great experience!

Excellent course in an excellent location. Jared has a great easy going teaching style. If you like being outdoors in the canyonlands, you NEED this information. Yahoo!!

John & Elizabeth - Salt Lake City, UT

Bluff is a great location for the course with plenty of little canyons nearby offering a variety of terrain, including water to cool off in. The atmosphere is fun, friendly and relaxing without the distractions of a big city. The San Juan river nearby offers great camping and relief from the heat.

As instructors, Jared Hillhouse is organized and supportive, while Dave Black is a wealth of knowledge, experience and confidence.

Students benefit from small class sizes with practically one-on-one mentoring.

A great feature of the North Wash Outfitters ACA courses is that they offer the Technical and Advanced courses back to back. Although the information learned in the Advanced course isn't used as often as the Technical course skills, in my opinion it is essential to safe and fun canyoneering.

Malia McIlvenna, Student - Salt Lake City, UT

Thinking about getting started in canyoneering? Need to brush up on your basic skills or better yet hone those advanced techniques? Prefer the dynamics of an all female group? My time spent in Bluff for back to back Technical and Advanced Canyoneering courses was wonderful. Even if you're already experienced, progressing through the ACA curriculum, with such qualified and patient teachers you will improve your confidence and knowledge. The local canyons are treasures, camping was pleasant and easy, and the community is welcoming! I would highly recommend the canyoneering courses offered by North Wash Outfitters in Bluff, Utah. GET OUT! DO IT!

Bette Wise-Steffen - Salt Lake City, UT

I highly recommend using North Wash Outfitters for the ACA classes. I can learn about anything anywhere and under most conditions but I really enjoyed the all women's classes. I didn't have to be aggressive to get a turn on the rope or set anchors. I was the one who got to climb back up the canyon for the pack toss / pot hole escape session. That probably wouldn't have happened with guys around.

It was a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of 'hands on' experiences. A couple months later when it came time to set up a guided rappel in an exploratory canyon, I knew how to do that. Aww, success! Now, when the big boys say, "I don't want to do that canyon. We have to jug out," I say, "yeah, lets go!"

Penny Martens - Grand Junction, CO

Thank you so much for doing the course Jared. It was great to see my dearest friend take so well to the sport I love with your wonderful teachings. I look forward to many a canyon with her and with the new skills and confidence your course installed in her we will have a fantastic time of it I am sure. It was a pure pleasure to watch you work and get to sit in on it. Thank you.

Nickie Heying - Mesa, AZ

Jared,
Just wanted to say "thanks" for a great course! Great info in the course and I will highly recommend it to my friends.

I'll be keeping an eye on your website, I'd like to eventually do the Rescue course and Bluff is the ideal location for me. Thanks again!

Kent Wagner - Boulder, CO

Jared,
"I was impressed with your ability to simultaneously teach to students of all levels. You truly are a great teacher, which was great since I had a lot to learn."

"You really care about the success of your students and even went the extra mile on numerous occasions to make sure we felt challenged, had fun, and could apply our new skills."

"Your extensive knowledge was evident from day one. You had thoughtful answers for practically all of our questions. It was evident that you were drawing from a wealth of experience gathered from years and years of technical rope work."

Mike Milne - San Francisco, CA

North Wash Outfitters in Bluff, Utah is just the ticket for learning and developing skills used in navigating slot canyons. The Technical Canyoneering course will teach you more than the basics while exploring some of the beautiful locations around Bluff. The Advanced Canyoneering course will test your knowledge as you gain new experience during more canyon descents. Safe travel is the goal in these courses and the student becomes responsible to evaluate rigging, rappels, and their own personal equipment as well as their partner's. Jared and his teaching staff are skilled instructors and present the information in a way that is fun and challenging for all levels of experience. The scenery is great, the curriculum is ACA approved, and the confidence gained to head out and start exploring your own favorite canyon is...priceless!

Cathy Cooper - Woods Cross, UT

I was impressed by Jared's conscientious attention to detail and concern for safety issues. He provides a thrilling exploration of some of Utah's most spectacular canyon country.

This was my first time canyoneering, and I was a little nervous. Your guides made me feel comfortable right off the bat and helped me get all geared up, in the equipment sense and mentally. It was great to learn about the basics of canyoneering and even as a beginner I felt totally comfortable in what we were doing. The scenery was amazing, the curving red rock was beautiful, and really was a sight. It was also neat to see the Indian ruins. I had so much fun in Fry Canyon that I’m anxious to go back again and try another, more challenging canyon and I wouldn’t go with anyone other than North Wash Outfitters, you were great!

BreAnn - Orem, UT

I'm so excited and feel a renewed sense of confidence, freedom, and growth. I'm very excited for my upcoming adventures and new anti-gravity freedom.

Thank you a million times over for a wonderful class and top-notch attention. I'll never forget you, and you'll know it because I guarantee that I'll bug you with questions! Thanks a trillion, what an awesome class!

Brandy Persson - Vail, CO

Thanks again for a great course. I feel like I've gotten a lot more confidence knowing that if anything goes wrong I'm now prepared. The canyons around Bluff are great training canyons and the logistics were perfect having use of the friendly coffee house atmosphere for our inside sessions then being able to get out to the canyons in minutes. Steve and I are planning on heading out to the NorthWash/Poison Springs area for a few days this week and I'm really looking forward to showing off my new skills. I know that I'll be doing the rigging. I've recommended the course to a number of my friends.
